US National Vapers Club bulletin May 2010National Vapers Club is a consumer-based organization. We are run and sponsored by e-cigarette users, also called vapers, through local vapers clubs as well as anonymous online donations. We are not affiliated with or funded in any way by any one e-cigarette company. We do evaluate companies selling the device for integrity, lack of false claims, good customer service, safety of e-liquid contents, proper packaging and history of responsible sales. We use that information to recommend reputable companies to the members of our organization, although we do not endorse these companies and do not accept money from them for this recommendation. National Vapers Club is made up of a number of local and state groups around the country that educate the public on e-cigarettes (we prefer the term "nicotine vaporizers"). We speak publicly about the device and the liquid used in it. We present information to news media, as well as to local and state governments, to encourage responsible regulation of the product until the FDA can develop regulatory standards for the device. Some of our funding goes to allow us to fund efforts of advocacy and protect the consumers right to vape. We donate all excess funds to Vapers International Research Organization, which is a research group that works with international doctors and scientists to write and conduct studies on nicotine vaporizers and the liquid used in them. Vapers International also gathers data and research on the nicotine vaporizer and evaluates the data with the help of chemists and physicians. They extrapolate data found in online communities comprised of vapers to determine efficacy and safety of the device. They also evaluate online vapers reports on how the device is used (reduction or cessation of smoking while using nicotine vaporizers). Vapers International speaks with physicians and public health experts about symptoms and side effects experienced by vapers to determine which are a result of quitting smoking and which are a result of utilizing the nicotine vaporizer. They gather self-reported information pertaining to changes in vapers' health, such as respiratory, pulmonary and cardiovascular changes, as noted by their doctors. With the help of the other members of the Vapers Coalition (CASAA, Midwest Vapers Group, Right to Vape) we have effectively prevented a number of e-cigarette bans in a number of states this year and we will continue to do so with your help and support! (We are all still working on New York… see www.VapersCoalition.org for more info!) With that said… there are a few things we would like you to know and some opportunities we would like to present to you. 1 - We sponsor Vapefest which is a biannual gathering of electronic cigarette users and a sort of vaping/e-cigarette “trade show” where people can demo new products and try new liquids and the vendors present their products at the event. There are opportunities for wholesaling to other vendors as well as direct sales at the event. The first one was held in VA in March of this year and drew over 100 vapers and 10 vendors. The next event, being called “Midwest Vapefest” is being held August 20-22, 2010 In St. Louis, Missouri. If you are interested in attending, this event should draw in excess of 200 vapers and possibly some media attention. You may contact us at VapersClub@aol.com for more info, but sponsorship is conditional. 2 - We have an arrangement with a number of vendors who mail out our business cards with every order. Our cards say “Protect your right to vape! Join our mailing list at www.VapersClub.com.” It allows us to keep the community informed of bans and legal situations that may affect them so they can help us by calling and contacting their legislators to help us prevent the e-cigarette bans and keep the activist movement organized. We also keep members abreast of major events in the vaping community. We do NOT spam the mailing list and we do not send emails more than once or twice a month and they must CHOOSE to join the mailing list. Our mailing list is NOT for sale! Vendors send our cards out in exchange for free advertising at www.VapersClub.com and by meeting our standards, it allows us to suggest you as a “recommended vendor”. If you would like to participate in this and help us protect the community you may contact us. 3 - We have a monthly mod auction at LovetoVape.com where we auction off one of a kind, customized and unique mods (and other vaping accessories) to raise money for our advocacy and the research we are trying to have done. If you have an item to donate, you may contact us. 4 - We have raffles at local vapers club meetings and we will start contests and giveaways for our National members starting this summer. We are asking for donations from the vendors for these prizes. We do not expect you to give us things you can sell, but if you have sample or demo products or liquids that people don’t buy often or colors of items that you do not usually sell or extra batteries or atomizers that you do not usually carry or chargers for items you no longer sell… we can piece these things together to make kits for prizes and would truly appreciate anything you have to offer. 5 - MOST importantly, we are implementing guidelines that will need to be met in order to be allowed to participate in events with National Vapers Club. They are below. You must meet them in order to participate in the above mentioned events. We hope that all the vendors will comply whether or not they decide to participate in activities with us, for the safety and health of the community. We do not feel the requirements are overly strict and we just want to show our government that the community is responsibly regulating itself and is willing to comply with reasonable regulations, which will improve the safety of our community as a whole and allow us to avoid potential problems which could cost us our right to vape. These guidelines will be in place until a “vendors organization” or “trade group” is formed in order to provide regulations on their own.
Regulations Required now… -Must not sell nicotine liquid containing over 6% nicotine content (60 mg/ml) to e-cigarette users (may sell to vendors with proof of company ownership up to 100mg/ml). -Any nicotine liquid over 3.6% (36 mg/ml) must have a MSDS sheet provided with it and an informational pamphlet to explain that it should not be used as is, but is meant to be cut down for mixing. (We can provide this info if needed.) -Website and advertising can NOT make health claims about the product or show testimonials which have false claims unless they are stated as opinions. Evidence and clinical studies may be posted. -NO sales may be permitted to anyone who is not old enough to purchase tobacco in the state of purchase of the e-cigarette product. -NO flavors or suggestions of either prescription or illegal drug flavors or effects. Required by the end of the year… -All liquid nicotine must have childproof caps by the start of 2011 to remain in compliance. If you need help with childproof packaging we can make recommendations on that. -All liquids MUST have packaging changed over by 2011 to show PERCENTAGE of nicotine in the liquid rather than mg/ml. (6mg/ml= 0.6%) -All companies must agree to “per batch” lab testing of their liquids every 60-90 days (which we should be able to offer at a discounted rate because we plan to be doing it in large numbers) by 2011. This list is subject to change at our discretion. We have provided this list as a guideline to protect our community and your businesses from overly strict government regulations.
Thanks to all of you for making this community so special and for helping save lives while you make a living! If there is anything WE can do for YOU… PLEASE do not hesitate to let us know!
